The New York Times: All the News That Fits Our Template

The New York Times continues their remarkably consistent run of idiocy. In an article on presidential charisma, they mention what a great job LBJ did in getting all the Southern Republicans to go along with him on the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Now, if you're like me, you read that line and immediately thought, "Southern what now?" Charlie Foxtrot sums it up thusly:

Now, for some quick facts. One can reasonably define "The South" as VA, NC, SC, GA, FLA, MS, AL, TN, LA, & AR. If you look at the make up of the Senate for the 88th Congress, you can see that each and every one of the Senate seats for these states was 100%, tried and true Democrat.

Yes, if you saw a Republican in the South in 1964, you were probably looking at somebody being chased by a pitchfork-wielding mob. Which everybody with even a passing familiarity with American history knows.

So, if we give the people responsible for this article the benefit of the doubt, they're idiots. If we don't, then they're engaged in some kind of Soviet-style history rewrite to give the impression that Republicans are always the ones who have to be persuaded away from racism. Either way, stop reading the Times.
