Me: How come "healing the sick" was one of the major themes of Jesus' miracles? He was just as capable of performing any other kind of miracle. What's significant about that action? Why didn't He go around making poor people rich, or dumb people smart, or turning bad dancers into good dancers?
Spiritual Advisor: Well, obviously, Jesus' miracles were about more than just the miracles themselves; they were teaching opportunities. In the ancient Middle East, illness and physical maladies were seen as God's punishment for sin. When Jesus healed the sick, He demonstrated His authority over sin and established Himself as an emissary of God.
So, in case you were ever curious about that, there you go.
