Now that we're fully in the post-modern period where words like "skill" and "talent" don't really mean anything anymore, how do you tell "great art" from "smears on a paper?"
John Stossel asks that very question, and provides a simple test to see if you can tell yourself. If you can't, well then you're just like most of the working artists who took the same test.
I think that we call a lot of stuff "art"--and I mean painting, literature, film, the whole bag--just because it is first called "art" by people who we think are smart and ought to know. The question is, who are these people and how do they get this kind of authority? Based on their preferences, they're a pretty sad and depressing lot, and have a hard time relating to people.
