What Global Warming Can Teach Us About the Rapture

No, I'm not saying that Jesus is going to come back and leave poor polar bears stranded on little shrinking icebergs. But we can learn something about how people might react to that Biblical event by the way true believers react to the collapse of the global warming facade.

The global warming "science" has been coming apart for quite some time, but for those who are committed to that world view, it's business as usual. Witness, via the Washington Times, the latest proclamation from the Pope of Global Warming, Al Gore:

More evidence of the climate crisis is unfolding before our eyes. The situation in the Arctic is worse than data from satellite pictures have told us... [and so on, with many tales of impending disaster and woe - j]

Christians (at least Protestant Evangelicals) love to talk about the book of Revelation and the End Times. It's like Dungeons & Dragons for the religious set: all about dangerous worlds and wondrous happenings... and dragons.

Anyways, one of the things will like to speculate about is how the people who are left behind will react after Christians are caught up in the rapture.  If a whole bunch of people just up and vanish, it'll be pretty hard to deny that something supernatural just happened.  However, one should never underestimate the ability of human beings to lie to themselves.  I think it's most likely that people will come up with all kinds of ways, both scientific and fanciful, to explain away the second coming. The people who are most heavily invested in believing that there is no God will work very hard to get back to business as usual.

And I believe that even more now that I'm seeing how the people most heavily invested in global warming are reacting to the mounting evidence of its falsehood.  The fabrication and fraud that has been discovered in the climate science community is a huge global story.  But there are a lot of true believers, including our award-winning former VP, who are showing an amazing ability to ignore the facts and continue on with business as usual.
