The eye black "advertisement" was unnecessary for the game. I wonder if some Christians would be offended by a secular humanist message like "There Is" and "No God" on two eye black patches?
America's freedom to practice religion (privately) is a right but Christian Supremacy or Dominionists have been known to exploit a situation for self-rightous reasons. Fanaticism and extremeism are dangerous anywhere and must be discouraged. Simply put, it was unnecessary for the football game.
He did not enforce his beliefs on anyone. He wrote something on his eye-black that was close to him. Dangerous is in a situation where he threatens people to follow him or follow his ideals like the Taliban does.
There are hardly a few things extremely "necessary" for the game to take place (not even the audience or the viewers)
